Do we like Zarah Sultana?
Our score: 6 out of 10. She has been on the right side of trans rights in public, but the party feuds and a contested stance on Israel keep her mid-table.
Zarah Sultana is the MP for Coventry South, and she came up through Labour's left. She left that party in 2025 and co-founded Your Party with Jeremy Corbyn. In the Commons she is known for blunt, headline-making interventions, and that is where she was in April 2026.
On 20 April 2026 she was ejected from the chamber. She told the House the Prime Minister was a “bare-faced liar” over the Mandelson appointment and refused to withdraw it. Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle told her to leave, and MPs voted to suspend her. Starmer later said he should not have appointed Mandelson. Her line was that she had a duty to tell the truth to the House, which her fans love and her critics call showboating.
The bigger drama has been inside her own party. In September 2025 she hired defamation lawyers over what she called false statements about the membership system launch. Within days she dropped the threat "as an act of good faith" and said she was determined to reconcile with Corbyn. She also described a “sexist boys' club” around her, while the party said she had not been excluded from discussions. It is a he-said, she-said, and there is no ruling either way.
On the good stuff, she shows up. In December 2025 she held an overnight vigil outside HMP Bronzefield, pressing for a hospital transfer for a hunger striker. Whatever you think of the cause, that is time and political capital spent on someone else.
The honest gap is that I could not open her voting record or the fact-checkers' own pages this time. Fact-checks I saw in search results were mostly debunking fake claims about her, plus one case where she corrected the record when asked. I found nothing newer than April 2026 worth reporting.
