Do we like Wizkid?
Our score: 6 out of 10. Nothing harmful turned up and there's real good in his speaking up on police violence, but the online brawling and the gaps in the record keep this mid-table.
Wizkid is one of the biggest names in Afrobeats, a Nigerian singer who grew up in Lagos and took the sound global. He won a Grammy in 2021 for his part in Beyoncé's Brown Skin Girl video, and told Rolling Stone he wants the world to look past one African star to all of them.
The loudest recent stoush was in January 2026. His fans started calling him a modern-day Fela, and Fela Kuti's son Seun Kuti called that disrespectful. Wizkid hit back on social media, calling Seun a “fool at 40” and saying he was bigger than Seun's father, while Seun told him to “just be yourself”. It got personal fast and, in the reports we read, had no resolution.
In April 2026 there was a second one. Reports said a scuffle at a Lagos nightlife event involved Burna Boy and Wizkid's DJ, DJ Tunez. Wizkid publicly accused Burna Boy of starting it, and Burna Boy fired back in a video. The Citizen noted that the account of the altercation was unverified, and Burna Boy's management had not issued a statement.
On the harm check, we found no slurs, conspiracy theories or campaigning against any group in what we read. That includes his words and the company he keeps. Honest gap: we found nothing from him on LGBTQ+ or trans rights, for or against, so there's no pass to hand out for being a good ally. We also found nothing on climate or vaccines.
The best thing on his record is in 2020. During the EndSARS protests against police brutality he told then-president Buhari to stop sending well-wishes abroad and sort out his own country. He urged the Lagos governor to act too. He told the president “Old man! Police/Sarz still killing Nigerian youth on a daily! Do something!”, which is a platform used for others.
We found nothing new and verified from the last few months, so there's no breaking scandal. The pattern is a star who is quick to punch back and slow to de-escalate. He's no saint, but we found nothing that touches the harm test.
