Do we like Whindersson Nunes?
Our score: 6 out of 10. A decent record with real charity work, held back by old posts he's since walked back and a July 2026 joke that went down badly.
Whindersson Nunes is a Brazilian comedian who built his name online and became one of the country's best-known entertainers. He was married to singer Luísa Sonza, and the two have stayed in the gossip pages ever since they split. Most of the drama on his record is of that celebrity-feud kind, not the grim stuff.
The latest stoush: after Norway knocked Brazil out of the World Cup, he posted on X a line about throwing her off a cliff again, riffing on her song “Penhasco” and a meme comparing her to Erling Haaland. Sonza unfollowed him and posted a caption about not becoming a mediocre man who thinks he's the best. He deleted the post, said it was a joke, then apologised to her and her fans a week later.
On the harm check, the main black mark is old. Catraca Livre reported that posts from 2011, when he was 16, resurfaced in 2018 with homophobic content. He responded that his opinion had changed, admitting he used to dislike gay people, though the article says he did not apologise for the offence. No campaigning against LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the climate turned up in what I read, and I found nothing on vaccines either way.
He also picked a fight with right-wing congressman Nikolas Ferreira of the PL in September 2025, starting when Whindersson replied to a Ferreira post about the Charlie Kirk shooting. It turned into days of insults, then the two met in person, with Ferreira saying afterwards “O cristão não ergue muros”. Where you land depends on whether you see a comedian standing up to a politician or two blokes feeding the algorithm.
In May 2026 composer Juvenal Ungarelli sued him in a Rio de Janeiro civil court for R$110,000, alleging a breached contract over a collaboration. His lawyers denied any breach and told Metrópoles the composer had filed to withdraw the suit. The article doesn't confirm the court has accepted that, so treat it as unresolved.
The real good stuff: when floods hit Rio Grande do Sul in 2024, he announced a benefit show in Fortaleza with ticket revenue going to flood victims, and a livestream with a QR code for online donations. That's using the platform for other people, not just a trophy.
