Do we like Vin Diesel?
Our score: 5 out of 10. No harmful words or company turned up, but a serious allegation went unresolved on a jurisdiction technicality, and the record on how he treats people is thin.
Diesel is the face of Fast & Furious, a franchise that has earned more than $7 billion worldwide. At a midnight Cannes screening in May 2026 he teared up as the credits rolled and dedicated the night to brotherhood and to Paul Walker. The sources we could open say little about his early life, so this is the screen persona, not the full backstory.
The big stain is a December 2023 Los Angeles lawsuit by a former assistant, Asta Jonasson. It alleged he sexually battered her in a hotel suite during the 2010 filming of Fast Five in Atlanta, and that she was fired within two weeks. His lawyer Bryan Freedman said Diesel categorically denies the claim in its entirety and called it a claim from a purportedly 9-day employee.
The case unravelled on legal grounds. In June 2025 a judge threw out four of the claims because she missed a filing deadline, and in November 2025 he dismissed the rest, ruling that California law doesn't reach an alleged incident in Georgia. Her lawyer says the court decided nothing about the truth of her allegations and that she intends to appeal; Freedman called it a meritless lawsuit. We found no word on an appeal, so it is unresolved, not cleared.
On the harm check, we searched for anything he has said or done about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants, vaccines or the climate, and found nothing. There are no culture-war rants and no sign of the conspiracy slide, and his recent work is the Fast franchise and the usual studio slate. That is an absence of evidence rather than a glowing reference, and we couldn't confirm any specific advocacy either.
Gossip about difficult behaviour on set, and claims from a former driver, turned up in the search results. We could only find them in tabloid territory or via anonymous sources, so we've left them out of the verdict. The Dwayne Johnson feud is old news and the pair have reportedly patched things up.
The good stuff is mostly loyalty. He has kept Walker's memory at the centre of the franchise, brought Walker's daughter Meadow along to Cannes, and told the crowd the finale was happening only because of the fans. It's sweet, though it is hard to point to a cause or a cost to himself.
