Do we like Samuel de Luque Batuecas (Vegetta777)?
Our score: 6 out of 10. Nothing harmful turned up and he runs a family-friendly channel, but the record on kindness is thin and a tax dispute is still undecided.
Samuel de Luque Batuecas was born in Madrid in 1989 and opened his YouTube channel in 2008. He posted his first video in 2012, and Minecraft series like Planeta Vegetta and Karmaland are what made him huge. He now has around 34 million subscribers, which makes him one of the biggest Spanish-language creators going.
The big career moments: he moved to Los Angeles with his mate Willyrex in 2014, then to Andorra in 2016. His channel lost followers in 2017, so he rebooted it in 2018 with reviews and live streams. He and Willyrex also co-created the Wigetta book saga, and they invested in the esports team Mad Lions in 2018.
The one real stoush on the record is about tax. Spain's central tax tribunal (TEAC) ruled that Vegetta777 and Willyrex must pay Spanish tax for 2016 and 2017, and they have appealed to the National Court. Their lawyers call the rulings “contrary to law and manifestly unjust”, say the tax agency accepted they spent more days in Andorra, and say they have paid the disputed bills so the case can proceed. No decision has been reported, so it's a dispute, not a finding against him.
On the good stuff, he got YouTube's diamond button in 2015 and was described as the first Spanish-language creator to get one. One profile says he has taken part in charity projects but names none, and our searches found no verified fundraisers. That's honestly the whole list. Fans clearly love him, and he seems to travel and hang out with fellow creator Fargan without any drama, but that's not the same as a record of kindness.
