Do we like Valkyrae?

Our score: 7 out of 10. Decent and on the right side of the harm question, with a charity record, but a shaky product launch and a clumsy defence of a mate.

Valkyrae is one of the best-known names in online gaming, a streamer and YouTuber with a huge, loyal audience. The best single snapshot of what that audience will do for her is December 2021, when she raised $306,701 for the housing charity New Story in one stream. It was part of JackSepticEye's Thankmas drive, which raised about $7.4 million across more than 20 creators.

The charity stream is the real good-news story. An anonymous viewer dropped a $200,000 donation early on, which blew past her goal and left her in tears of disbelief. Raising that sort of money for a homelessness charity is the kind of thing fans love her for, and it counts.

On the harm test, the record is short and clean. In March 2021 she made an offhand remark on stream about her own orientation, and viewers said it brushed off LGBTQ+ struggles. She apologised on Twitter the next day, acknowledged her privilege, and wrote “I'll do better!”. An apology only counts when behaviour follows it, and nothing from her since that we could open points the other way.

Her messiest stoush was the RFLCT skincare line in October 2021. It sold a “Blue Light Prevention Factor” built on a mugwort extract. Critics, including fellow streamers, labelled it a “scam” and pointed out that there is little evidence screens damage skin. At the time of that report she hadn't responded. It's a business misstep rather than hate, but it matters because she was selling to a young audience that trusts her.

In October 2025 she defended streamer Hasan Piker's dog Kaya after a viral clip. Viewers alleged the dog wore a shock collar, and Piker has rejected calling it animal cruelty. Valkyrae vouched for the dog's care but didn't say whether a shock function was used, then said people should show the same energy about genocide. Some heard that as character testimony, others as deflection; where you land depends on which you think it was.

The record is thinner than for most. We couldn't open the coverage of the April 2026 Sykkuno cheating scandal, so we've left it out rather than guess. Nothing we read showed a court case, a fine or a settlement against her, and nothing turned up on how she treats staff or co-stars.
