Do we like Troye Sivan?

Our score: 8 out of 10. Years of backing LGBTQ+ youth causes and no harmful words or company found, though the record on wider issues is thin.

That history shows in what he does. In 2017 he sat down with residents and advocates at New York’s Ali Forney Center for a video on LGBTQ homelessness. He said then: “we clearly have a very, very long way to go.”

In 2019 he announced that his Australian tour shows would raise money for Minus18 and Beyond Blue. He said both were vital to him before he came out. Pedestrian doesn’t say how much was raised, so call it a real gesture rather than a headline figure.

On the harm check, I found nothing nasty. In 2023, with anti-LGBTQ+ bills piling up, he told Elle that representation shows young people their “immediate circumstances” won’t last forever. I found no sourced words from him on trans rights specifically, and no run of work with people who push harm. That makes it a clean pass, but a thin one on the wider issues.

The scandals are small. In 2024 an anonymous blind item on TikTok claimed he was using his tour with Charli XCX to meet people on Grindr. That is tabloid territory. He answered it in a video, calling it a stereotype and telling people not to “sex shame” him. Fair enough.

In January 2026 a London cosmetic doctor posted a since-deleted video picking over his face, and Sivan replied with a Substack post about body image. He wrote that he has long struggled with it. He also said the doctor later sent a message of apology, and that there were “no hard feelings.” Few people would be that gracious after being publicly dissected.

Right now he is promoting She’s the Best, announced in August and out on 9 October. Variety called it his best, if weirdest, album, and said it is dedicated to the women around him. The reviewer also praised his ambition over playing it safe.
