Do we like Tim Farriss?
Our score: 6 out of 10. Nothing harmful turned up, but the search found little real good or personal comment either, so this is a cautious middle-of-the-road score.
Tim Farriss is the lead guitarist and a founding member of INXS, the Sydney band that took in the Farriss brothers and Michael Hutchence. He's the quiet engine of the group, the riff man rather than the front man, and that's partly why there's so little personal goss on him.
The one big public stoush is a civil one, and he's the one who started it. In 2019 he took legal action against the owners of a Sydney hire boat over an accident that injured his hand. Reports say he lost at trial and again on appeal in 2023, so the courts went against him on that claim.
On the harm test, the searches found nothing. No anti-LGBTQ+ campaigning, no conspiracy theories, no run of dodgy collaborations. I'll be straight though: he doesn't give many political interviews, so this is an absence of evidence rather than a loud statement of values.
On the good stuff, the honest answer is that not much turned up. Searches for charity work or causes found nothing I could source, so I won't invent any. His band's legacy is what he's known for, including a first-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination for INXS in 2026. I didn't find how that nomination ended up.
So where does that leave a reader who wants to know if they can keep humming Need You Tonight in peace? Nothing against him turned up, and that counts for something. Just know this is a safe pass on a thin file, not a gold star.
