Do we like Thelma Plum?
Our score: 7 out of 10. Nothing harmful turned up and her public record is on the right side, but I couldn't open full articles, so the evidence is thinner than I'd like.
Thelma Plum is a Gamilaraay singer-songwriter from Brisbane. She came up through the triple j Unearthed National Indigenous Award as a teenager and built a career on honest, personal pop that doesn't dodge hard subjects.
Her debut album Better in Blak (2019) was her statement piece, tackling racism, sexism and heartbreak. Her second record, I'm Sorry, Now Say It Back, came out in October 2024, and it won Best Pop Release at the 2025 ARIA Awards, a proper win against some big names.
In 2016 she publicly described an altercation with a band frontman, and music media later ran pieces arguing the industry owed her an apology. I couldn't open the full reporting, so I'm leaving the details to those articles. What stands out is that she spoke up and copped a lot of public noise for it.
On the harm check, nothing turned up. I found no hostile words about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the planet, no conspiracy rabbit holes, and no dodgy co-stars or collaborators. The gap is that I couldn't read a full interview, so this is an absence of red flags, not a deep audit.
The good stuff is mostly in the work. Her music has put First Nations women's experience front and centre for years, and she is back on the road in 2026 with her first acoustic tour. I found no formal charity record, so I won't invent one.
So it's a yes from us. She's a decent, talented artist with a spotless record in the sources I could check. If you want certainty, read her full interviews yourself, but there's nothing here that should make you wince.
