Do we like Taeyeon?
Our score: 8 out of 10. A clean record on harm and a decent one on character, held back only because the evidence on LGBTQ+ views and bigger causes is thin.
Taeyeon is the Girls' Generation member who went solo and became one of K-pop's steadiest voices. In 2025 she toured Asia to mark ten years since her solo debut, and in January 2026 she renewed with SM Entertainment, the company she has been with for 19 years.
Her biggest recent stoush wasn't with a person, it was with her own label. In April 2025 SM cancelled her two Tokyo shows days out, saying tour equipment hadn't arrived in Japan. Taeyeon said she hated the whole situation and felt sorry for the fans.
She then went a step further and posted a global fan coalition's statement on her own social media, one that asked SM for feedback and compensation plans. That's a big thing for a star to do about the company that pays her, and it's the clearest sign of whose side she picks.
On the harm check, we found nothing: no campaigning against any group, no conspiracy rabbit holes, and no questionable collaborators in what we read. To be straight, we also didn't find her speaking about LGBTQ+ rights, the climate or politics, so this is a clean sheet because it's a quiet one, not because she's marched for anything.
The good stuff is real. In 2019 she gave 100 million won to the Korean Red Cross in North Jeolla to buy hygiene products for girls and women in low-income households, and said she wanted to give warmth to female students who felt neglected.
