Do we like Sydney Sweeney?

Our score: 7 out of 10. No harmful words or acts of her own turned up, and there's real local giving, but she's dodged the political questions and has one unresolved contract suit.

Sweeney is a Spokane girl made good, and she's never really left the place behind. She became a household name as Cassie Howard in HBO's Euphoria, and she's since built a producing and fashion-label sideline on top of the acting.

The big fight around her isn't about anything she said. It's the 2025 American Eagle jeans campaign, which got dragged into politics online and left her stuck with the nickname MAGA Barbie. She has pushed back on the political labels and told reporters she's against hate and attempts to divide communities.

Here's the thing for our purposes: when asked about it, she mostly dodges. In a January interview she said she's never been here to talk about politics, and also said she believes we should all love each other and have respect for one another. Some will find that a cop-out, others fair enough, but it's a refusal to talk, not a harmful statement.

On LGBTQ+ people specifically, the record we found is clean. She told PinkNews she hoped her boxing biopic Christy would open doors for others and called Christy Martin an advocate for the community. Meanwhile a viral post claiming she'd bankrolled an anti-queer push was pure fabrication, and PinkNews reported its own account bio called it satire.

The only legal blemish is a 2022 suit by swimwear brand LA Collective, which alleged she backed out of a deal after helping develop a line. We couldn't find how it ended, so treat it as unresolved. On the good side, she paid for about 400 meals for Spokane shelters in 2020, and in August 2026 she backed wildfire relief in her home state.

The Euphoria season 3 pile-on is mostly about a TV storyline, not her character as a person, and the show's creator publicly defended her work. Our call: a lean-in yes. If you want her to say more about politics, you'll be waiting.
