Do we like Sunisa Lee?

Our score: 7 out of 10. Clean on harm and decent in public, but the record is thin on causes beyond a school donation and speaking out after an attack.

Suni Lee is the St Paul, Minnesota gymnast who became an Olympic champion and a Hmong-American first in the sport. She is a six-time Olympic medalist, and her home gym is Midwest Gymnastics in Little Canada, where she is training again. Her story is one of the more loved ones in American sport.

The news peg is her comeback. She announced in July 2026 that she would try for LA 2028, and told The Hollywood Reporter the documentary about it is “an invitation to come along for the journey.” Fanatics Studios will film the road to the Games, so expect plenty of content.

On the harm check, the cupboard is bare in a good way. Searches turned up no remarks about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the planet from her, no conspiracy rabbit holes, and no work with people who push that stuff. Honest caveat: she is an athlete who mostly keeps her public talk to sport, so there isn't a lot of record to test either way.

On the good-person side, no court cases, lawsuits or misconduct allegations against her turned up. In 2022 she went back to Battle Creek Elementary in St Paul, her old school, and with Amazon made a $50,000 donation. She also dealt with the old teachers and kids in person, which says something.

So the verdict: we would happily back her. It isn't a ten because the record is more thin than glowing, and we have no sign of her using her platform for causes beyond her community. If that changes on the road to LA, the number goes up.
