Do we like Suga?

Our score: 8 out of 10. No harmful words or company found, real donations on the record, and one drunk-riding fine he apologised for.

Suga is the rapper in BTS, and he was the last of the seven members to finish South Korea's mandatory service. He did it as a social service agent under the alternative service program, and was discharged on 21 June 2025. That ended the group's long break and set up the full-group comeback this year.

The stain on the record is a night in August 2024. Police found him after he fell off an electric scooter near his home following dinner and drinks, and his blood alcohol was measured at 0.227 per cent, well over the 0.08 limit. He apologised on Weverse, writing that he knew there was no excuse and that it was all his fault. The Seoul Western District Court then fined him 15 million won by summary order, with no full trial.

The fallout dragged on for a while. A civil complaint filed with the Military Manpower Administration alleged he had neglected his service duties and showed a sense of entitlement, according to Korea Daily's report. The complaint is only an allegation, and the article reported no outcome. His label said he would face consequences at his workplace, and he did finish his service.

On the harm test, we found nothing nasty from him: no slide into conspiracy theories, no campaigning against anyone's rights, and nothing about the company he keeps. His group put $1 million behind Black Lives Matter in 2020 and posted that they stood against racial discrimination and condemned violence. To be straight about the gaps, we didn't find a source we could open on what he has said about LGBTQ+ people, so we won't claim one.

The recent news is mostly good. In an April 2026 interview he said the spotlight is simply part of the job and no longer weighs on him, and that he used to be overly competitive. He also said that with the will, the group could keep going into their 70s and 80s. That's a pretty steady tone for someone whose comeback year included a few rows about BTS in general.

The giving looks real. On his 30th birthday in 2023 he gave 100 million won (about $75,000) to Save the Children for children caught in the Turkey and Syria earthquakes. Birthday donations have reportedly become something of a habit for him, though we only opened the one report.
