Do we like Suga?
Our score: 7 out of 10. Decent record and real generosity, held back by one real stain and a thin record on where he stands on LGBTQ+ issues.
Min Yoongi, known as Suga, is a rapper, songwriter and producer from Daegu. He is one of the seven members of BTS and also releases solo work as Agust D. Outlets describe him as a driving force behind the group's music, and he worked on 11 of the 14 tracks on the 2026 album ARIRANG as a producer or songwriter.
The stain on the record is August 2024. Police found him lying beside his electric scooter late at night with a blood alcohol reading reported at 0.227 per cent, nearly triple the legal limit. He admitted it and told reporters he was sorry. He said he sincerely reflected on having disappointed fans, and prosecutors later closed the case with a summary order, meaning a penalty with no trial.
The fallout was messy. Some people claiming to be fans called for him to leave the band, and the Military Manpower Administration said the incident fell outside his work hours and would be dealt with under traffic law. Separate claims that he neglected his duties during his social service were reported, and we couldn't open a page that gave his side or an official finding. Treat those as alleged.
On the harm test, there's nothing nasty here. Outlets say he has spoken about discrimination and the need for empathy, and no slide into grievance or conspiracy turned up. His group work has been with big mainstream collaborators. The honest gap: the LGBTQ+ ally claims we found sit on fan and entertainment sites, so we haven't leaned on them.
The good stuff is real. In June 2025 he reportedly donated about US$3.6 million to set up an autism treatment centre at Severance Hospital in Seoul, offering language, psychological and behavioural therapy. That's a gift with no strings of fame attached, and it counts for more than a trophy.
Nothing new on him lately that we could confirm beyond the ARIRANG comeback and the world tour that followed. Put together: a man who made one dumb, dangerous mistake, said sorry and got on with it, and who has put serious money into helping others. We'd happily keep him on the playlist.
