Do we like Sơn Tùng M-TP?

Our score: 6 out of 10. No harmful words or acts turned up, but the record is thin and the good stuff couldn't be confirmed, so it's a cautious middle-to-good score.

The reason anyone is talking about Sơn Tùng M-TP right now is Come My Way, his single with American rapper Tyga, released on 28 May 2026. It was meant to be a big step onto the global stage, but the music video collected controversy almost straight away.

The first row was a scene of him standing on the Lac bird, a Dong Son cultural symbol, which split scholars into two camps. The second came from visual artist Le Giang, who argued a ruin-like structure in the video closely resembled her 2017 artwork. The art-direction team, Microwave Soups, said it had referenced the work without permission and apologised, and his team announced the segment had been removed.

There was also a business fight. A Vietnamese arbitration panel ordered his company, M-TP Talent, to pay nearly 6 billion dong to TAD Global Vietnam, and in August 2024 the Ho Chi Minh City court cancelled that award at the company's request. TAD said it would sue in a separate court. It's a contract dispute with a company, not a story about how he treats people.

On the harm check, we found nothing: no words or campaigning against LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants, public health or the planet, and no sign of conspiracy theories or dodgy collaborators. The row is about creative decisions, and the coverage we read says his team answered in measured written statements. That's an absence in thin searching, not a glowing character reference.

On the good stuff, reports of flood donations turned up in searches, but the pages wouldn't open, so we haven't counted them. Likewise his big career milestones weren't confirmed from a page we could read. That's why this lands as a solid but cautious yes rather than a gush.
