Do we like Rupert Lowe?
Our score: 2 out of 10. A loud run of his own campaigning for mass deportation, with very little verified good to set against it.
Lowe is a former City trader and ex-owner of Southampton FC. He was a Conservative until 1993, when he left over the Maastricht Treaty, and he won Great Yarmouth for Reform UK at the 2024 election. He now sits for his own outfit, Restore Britain, which he pitches as a third force on the right to take on Nigel Farage and Kemi Badenoch.
His Reform exit was ugly. In March 2025 the party suspended him after complaints from two female staff members and alleged threats towards chairman Zia Yusuf, and Lowe denied the claims. The Crown Prosecution Service decided not to charge him in May 2025, and he came out swinging at Farage and said he'd start defamation action.
On the harm test, the problem is his own politics rather than the company he keeps. Restore Britain's headline pitch is mass deportation and reversing immigration, and Hope not Hate, an anti-extremism group, calls him Britain's most extreme MP. He rejects the far-right label, but his own platform is the thing that fails our test. We found nothing on his positions on trans people or climate, so that's a gap, not a pass.
There's also a standards inquiry still hanging over him. The parliamentary complaints scheme chose to investigate a complaint against him, and in May 2026 a High Court judge threw out his bid to stop it, ruling the challenge was barred by parliamentary privilege. The judge reached no view on the merits of the complaint, and Lowe said the ruling empowers 'unelected civil servants to weaponise parliamentary privilege'. As for good deeds, we couldn't verify any worth setting against all this.
