Do we like Ruby Rose?
Our score: 6 out of 10. Nothing harmful turned up and there is real good, but two unresolved fights where each side says the other is wrong keep this in the middle.
Ruby Rose Langenheim was born in Melbourne in 1986 and raised by a young, artistic single mum. She came up through a local model search, became an MTV VJ and TV host, then moved into acting around 2008. Hollywood followed: Orange Is the New Black, John Wick: Chapter 2, xXx, Pitch Perfect 3 and The Meg.
In 2018 she was cast as Batwoman, and she has been open since her teens about being attracted to women and describes herself as gender fluid. She left the show after one season. That exit is the first big stoush on her file.
In October 2021 she posted a run of Instagram stories about the set. She accused then-studio boss Peter Roth of hiring a private investigator on her, and accused a co-star of yelling at women and hurting a stunt double. Warner Bros. TV said it didn't renew her option over multiple complaints about workplace behaviour and called her account “revisionist history”. A source close to production called the Roth claims slanderous and unfounded. None of this has been tested in court, so it is her word against theirs.
The harm check is short. We found no words from her against trans people, women, migrants or the planet, and nothing about who she keeps making films with that raises an eyebrow. Her politics are thin on the record, so we can't say much beyond that. What does show up points the right way: in 2017 she pledged $10,000 to an LGBTQ+ disaster relief fund after Hurricane Harvey.
When some people grumbled that she'd given to a queer-specific group, she defended it, though she said she didn't agree with the personal attacks on critics' wording and understood those who didn't know what the centre does. She said she'd rather donate anonymously. She also noted a separate donation to a Texas animal organisation that she hadn't publicised.
The recent story is the heavy one. On 12 April 2026 she posted on Threads alleging Katy Perry sexually assaulted her at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne, saying it had taken almost two decades to say it publicly. Perry's rep told media the claims were “categorically false” and “dangerous, reckless lies”, and said Rose has a history of public allegations others have denied. Victoria Police confirmed it is investigating a historical sexual assault allegation; no charges have been reported, and Rose says she can no longer comment.
