Do we like Roman Reigns?
Our score: 6 out of 10. A clean record on the harm questions we could find, but a thin good-deeds file and a political stance plenty of fans will sit uneasily with.
Roman Reigns was born Leati Joseph Anoa'i in Pensacola, Florida, in 1985, into the Anoa'i wrestling dynasty. He had a go at college football before WWE signed him, and he made his televised debut in 2010 under a different ring name before becoming Roman Reigns.
The big break came in 2012 with The Shield, alongside Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. He won the Royal Rumble in 2015, took the WWE title that year, and from 2020 reinvented himself as the villainous Tribal Chief. That run lasted 1,316 days, the longest world title reign in WWE since 1988, until Cody Rhodes ended it at WrestleMania 40 in 2024.
On the harm test, we found nothing from him about LGBTQ+ people, trans people, vaccines or the climate. In 2018 he pushed back on the idea that WWE holds minorities down, citing himself and saying “I'm a multi-racial man.” That is one wrestler's view of his own workplace, not a campaign.
The politics is where the asterisk lives. In a 2025 Vanity Fair profile he said he's a registered Democrat but a centrist, said he supports Trump, and talked up “Positive and competent leadership.” He also said Trump “needs that opposition to bounce off of”, so it wasn't a blanket endorsement.
The recent stoush came in June 2026, when he showed up at UFC Freedom 250 on the White House lawn. Hauser was among the critics, and Ryback defended him, calling him one of the most respectful, professional people he's known in the business. Where you land depends on whether you read it as a company-mandated TKO gig or as a political statement; the coverage we read has no word from Reigns himself.
On how he treats people, the record is quiet in a good way. We found no court cases against him and no credible claims of mistreating colleagues. When asked about the allegations Janel Grant brought against Vince McMahon, who denies them, he called them “stain on WWE” and said it's embarrassing, which is a fair thing to say out loud given how long he worked for the man.
