Do we like Raphael Warnock?

Our score: 7 out of 10. Decent and on the right side in everything we could read, but the research was cut short, so we hold back from the top marks.

Warnock is a Georgia Democrat who has sat in the U.S. Senate since January 2021 and is still senior pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the church Martin Luther King Jr. once led. He grew up in Savannah public housing, one of twelve kids of Pentecostal pastors, per the reference pages we searched. That pulpit-to-Senate arc is the whole brand.

The big scandal story was a nasty one that mostly fell over. In 2022, Herschel Walker's campaign ran an ad claiming Warnock “hit his wife with his car”. PolitiFact read the police report from the 2020 incident, and the officer wrote that there were no signs her foot had been run over, so it found no evidence for the claim. The same fact-check did back up one detail, that a process server said Warnock drove off when approached. Warnock's campaign responded that he is a devoted father.

On the harm test, we found no harmful words or acts from him in what we could read. The record that came up is of a politician who sponsors bills to help people, such as the Renewing the Dream Act in October 2026 and a water-supply bill in July 2026. When asked in April 2026 about clergy who say Trump was chosen by God, he gave a blunt answer, and he has argued Trump's bet on Black voters will not pay off. Search results also pointed to his support for the Equality Act and a vote against GOP trans-athlete bans, but we could not open those pages, so we are not leaning on them. Reports also differ on whether he cast the final vote on the Respect for Marriage Act while campaigning in 2022.

In his own words, Warnock is trying to reclaim faith for the left. In his NPR interview he said “my party cedes so much of the faith and values space”. He argues faith should confront systemic injustice, not just personal behaviour, and he has publicly questioned Republicans who pray while backing cuts to social services. That is a clash of religion and politics, not a harm, and Warnock is not the first pastor to bring his faith into the Senate chamber. How you feel about it depends on whether you read it as moral clarity or as preaching.

The honest gap: the search tools hit a usage limit partway through this check, so we could not open the news pages about his 2002 church-camp arrest (reportedly dropped), the ethics complaint search results flagged, or his charity work. Treat those as unverified here. What we did read shows a mainstream Democrat with a clean court record in what we found and a Dream Act renewal to his name.

So would we support him? Yes, comfortably, but with a few boxes unticked. He passes on harm and on being a decent person, and the dirt thrown at him in 2022 did not hold up under PolitiFact's reading. A score of 7 reflects how much we could confirm, not a doubt about the man.
