Do we like Rain Pryor?
Our score: 6 out of 10. No harmful words or acts turned up, but little solid reporting on her good works or recent years could be opened.
Rain Pryor is the daughter of comedian Richard Pryor, and her own career has been built on the stage, the screen and one very personal solo show. She has spent a lot of her working life talking about growing up mixed-race. That is the thread running through her interviews.
In a 2015 NBC interview she recalled seeing a 1975 TV report on the KKK and wondering “which half of me do they beat up?” She also said Black casting agents told her she wasn't Black enough. It's a candid, funny-then-sharp account of being stuck between categories.
On Bill Cosby, in that same interview, she called the destruction of his legacy sad. She also said he had to publicly confront the allegations against him, and that his charitable giving was no substitute for that. That's a fair line to draw, and she drew it without piling on.
On the harm check, we found nothing: no campaigning against trans or LGBTQ+ people, no conspiracy slides, and no climate or vaccine claims. The catch is that we also found little either way on LGBTQ+ issues, so this is a pass on absence of evidence. We found no recent news on her either, and nothing about who she's been making work with lately.
The good stuff is harder to pin down from reliable sources. Several pages mention awards and mental-health advocacy, but the ones we could open were thin and the rest looked like content-farm material, so we've left it out. Verdict: a decent pass, held at a 6 because the file is thin.
