Do we like Priyanka Chopra Jonas?

Our score: 7 out of 10. A decent record on the right side, with one contested position (the 2019 military tweet) and a thinner record on LGBTQ+ issues than we'd like.

Priyanka Chopra is a Bollywood star who made the leap to Hollywood and became a household name through the TV series Quantico. She has said she moved partly because she was being pushed into a corner in Bollywood, with people not casting her and politics she was tired of. That outsider story is a big part of why fans back her.

Her biggest stoush came in 2019. After India's Balakot airstrike she tweeted a congratulation to the Indian Air Force, and months later at Beautycon in Los Angeles a woman who said she was Pakistani confronted her, saying that as a Goodwill Ambassador she was encouraging nuclear war. Chopra let her speak, said she doesn't promote war but is patriotic, and apologised for hurting anyone's feelings. Where you land depends on whether you read the tweet as national pride or as a poor look for a peace envoy.

On the harm test, we found nothing nasty from her about LGBTQ+ people, women or migrants. In 2016 she took on Donald Trump's proposed Muslim ban, saying generalising a type of people was really primitive. To be fair, the trans-specific record is thin: we couldn't find her saying much either way.

The recent one is the Oscars. In March 2026 she co-presented with Javier Bardem, who made an anti-war speech before the award. Viewers fixated on her smiling reaction, some wanting her to speak up, while defenders said her role was purely ceremonial. She hasn't addressed it, and a few viral screenshots of her supposedly responding were fakes, so check before you share.

The good stuff is real. She became a UNICEF global Goodwill Ambassador in December 2016 after years in the role in India, and that work has run for a decade. That's a long, steady record rather than a photo-op.

As for who she keeps working with, the recent news is a mystery project with Angelina Jolie, which she confirmed in a Fortune India interview in June 2026 without saying what it is. Nothing in what we read ties her to anyone pushing grievance politics, though a long list of projects deserves more digging than a quick check.
