Do we like Phil Spencer?
Our score: 7 out of 10. A recognised charity record and no harmful words or acts found, but I couldn't open much of the coverage, so I'm holding back from a higher score.
This is the Phil Spencer from the telly, the property bloke, not the Xbox boss of the same name. The Xbox one made headlines this year, but that's a different man with a different story.
The best-documented thing about him is his charity work. St Mungo's, the homelessness charity, says he has been a patron since 2010, and it put out a press release when he was named in the New Year Honours. Its chief executive Emma Haddad said that within that time he had shown “incredible passion and dedication”.
The honour is an MBE for charitable services. He reportedly called it “very overwhelming”, according to the headline on the Press Association story carried by Express & Star. That's a nice thing to earn, and it's sustained work rather than a one-off photo op.
On the harm test, I searched for anything he's said or done about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the planet, and for any company he keeps. Nothing came up. I also found no court outcomes against him and no credible misconduct allegations. A decade-old hunting clip has been recirculated and drew criticism, but I couldn't open those pages to check the details, so I'm not building a verdict on it.
So the honest picture is a clean search result, not a glowing one. He hasn't spoken much on the issues this page cares about, and I couldn't fetch several outlets to read his interviews in full. If you want to like him, nothing I verified says you shouldn't.
