Do we like Pete Evans?
Our score: 1 out of 10. Years of Covid and health misinformation, regulator fines and a Nazi-symbol post, and no verified good deeds in the record to set against it.
Evans was a proper mainstream name. He opened Hugos Bondi in 1996, then co-hosted Seven's My Kitchen Rules with Manu Feildel from 2010. From around 2013 he pushed the paleo diet, launched a paid wellness program in 2014 and made the 2017 documentary Magic Pill.
The fall came fast in 2020. Seven ended his My Kitchen Rules contract in May, then in November he posted a meme featuring a Nazi black sun symbol. Network 10, his publisher Pan Macmillan, Kmart, Target and others cut ties. He said “The fact that I had to actually Google what neo-Nazi meant is pretty telling,” and later apologised to anyone who misinterpreted the post.
The regulator caught up with him as well. In April 2020 the TGA fined him $25,200 over claims about a roughly $15,000 BioCharger device, with the TGA alleging he linked it to coronavirus in a Facebook Live video. He said the claims were unfounded and sent it to his lawyers. In May 2021 it issued more notices totalling $79,920 over alleged advertising breaches, plus a directions notice.
On the harm test, it's his own record. Facebook removed his page in December 2020 for repeated violations of its Covid misinformation policies, and the Independent reports he appeared at an anti-vaccine rally in Sydney in 2021. In September 2025 he said the reaction to Covid was “a scam and a hoax”. He also thanked Robert F. Kennedy Jr for setting up a cookbook with Children's Health Defense.
Since then he's been working his way back. In February 2025 he returned to Facebook and Instagram after four years, celebrating Trump's election win with a post saying “What a time to be ALIVE”. In April 2025 he announced he'd speak at Bitcoin Vegas and posted about meeting Trump and Musk at Mar-a-Lago, calling it a “beautiful evening”.
The good side is thin. Mamamia says he now runs the Evolve Sanctuary wellness retreat in northern NSW and a paid streaming service, and I couldn't verify any charity work or acts of kindness in the reporting I read. That's honestly the whole list, which is why the score is so low.
