Do we like Nikkie de Jager?

Our score: 8 out of 10. A decent, public ally with no harmful words or acts found, though the record we could verify is thin on recent years.

Nikkie de Jager, better known as NikkieTutorials, started posting make-up videos in her early teens and broke through in 2015 with “The Power of Makeup”. By January 2020 she had about 12.7 million YouTube followers. She is Dutch, and she became one of the biggest beauty names on the internet.

The story she is best known for is the one she didn't get to tell on her own terms. In January 2020 she posted a 17-minute video, “I'm Coming Out”, saying she is trans. She said someone had threatened to expose her to the press, so she went first. She told Ellen DeGeneres she cried before posting, then hit publish with her fiancé's encouragement.

The ugliness came from others. Too Faced co-founder Jerrod Blandino's sister reportedly put a remark about de Jager in her Instagram bio that many on Twitter called transphobic. Blandino issued a statement saying she no longer worked at the company, and praised de Jager. De Jager didn't respond publicly to the remark, and her later line to the blackmailer was “to the one who tried to blackmail me, honey, look at me now.”

Worse followed in August 2020, when armed robbers broke into her home while she was there with her fiancé. She said it frightened her more than the blackmail did. A Rotterdam court sentenced eight men over a string of robberies, including hers and a football commentator's, to between one and eight years in jail in 2022.

The good stuff is mostly about visibility and kindness. She said she hoped to “inspire any ‘Little Nikkies’ to be their selves”. In 2021 she became Eurovision's first openly trans host, and called it “an amazing honour” to have that platform. For a family page that loves Eurovision, that one matters.

Nothing new on her lately that we could find. Her most recent mention was in April 2025, when she said she wouldn't be reading out the Dutch Eurovision points, and that the choice was hers. Of the Joost Klein affair she said it “became a little bit mine”, too.
