Do we like Morissette Amon?
Our score: 6 out of 10. Nothing harmful or nasty turned up, but the record we could open is thin, so we can't say more than a cautious yes.
Morissette Amon, known as Morissette and nicknamed “Asia's Phoenix”, is a Filipino singer from Cebu. She came up through The Voice of the Philippines in 2013 and was signed as a recording artist the following year. The nickname comes from her whistle-register high notes.
Her formative moment was a loss. She lost on The Voice, was so discouraged she nearly stopped singing, and about two years later was invited on stage by Jessie J to sing the same song that had knocked her out. Tatler reports she went on to win Best New Female Recording Artist at the 2015 PMPC Star Awards for Music.
Along the way she faced a real scare about her voice. She told Gulf News in 2018 that she had developed nodules from overusing it during her first theatre production, and that she and her family feared she would not sing again. She said she always gets stage fright whether the crowd is big or small, which is a pretty relatable thing for a powerhouse vocalist to admit.
On the harm test, we came up empty in a good way. Searches for anything she has said or done about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants, health or the planet turned up nothing harmful, and no pattern of working with people who push harm. That's an absence of evidence rather than a long paper trail of allies, so we'd call it a clean pass with a small caveat.
On the good-person test, there are no court cases and no accusations in the sources we could open. She has since launched her own label and talent management company, Underdog Music. Several outlets covered a 2019 concert walkout and a 2024 spat over a corporate gig, but we couldn't open those pages, so we leave them as a mention, not a finding.
The latest big thing is Ember, her 15-years-in-music concert at Smart Araneta Coliseum on 28 October 2025, her first major solo show there since 2018. The set was billed as a mix of fan favourites and new material, with indie-folk act The Ridleys opening.
