Do we like Milla Jovovich?
Our score: 8 out of 10. Decent record, with one deleted post and one film-line mess-up that she owned and apologised for.
Milla Jovovich was born in Kyiv, and it still shapes her public life. When Russia invaded in 2022 and again a year on, Ukraine was the cause she chose to put her name and platform behind. She's best known as an action lead, and she's been working steadily into 2026.
The messiest film moment came in 2020, when Monster Hunter was pulled from Chinese cinemas after a line referencing a racist playground rhyme. Co-star Jin Au-Yeung improvised the line, and director Paul W.S. Anderson apologised. Jovovich said the production should have researched its origin, “that's 100% on us”, and told Au-Yeung he did nothing wrong.
Then there's the Shaun King post. In December 2023 she shared support for King after Instagram banned him, then deleted it. She said it had hurt loved ones, that she didn't know whether the accusations against him were true, and wrote “I am so sorry to those I hurt.” Where you land depends on whether you read it as a quick, decent retreat or as a pile-on that got her.
On the harm check, nothing of her own turned up: no campaigning against LGBTQ+ or trans people, no climate or vaccine claims, no slide into conspiracy talk in what I found. The evidence is thin on her taking political stands at all, so that's a clean sheet with gaps rather than a ringing endorsement. I also found no court judgment against her.
The recent bit is MemPalace, an AI memory tool she helped design and released in April 2026. She said it grew out of problems she hit on a game project and credited collaborator Ben Sigman with the engineering. A computer science professor told Decrypt the performance claims hadn't been validated outside controlled tests, so call it a bit of a stoush rather than a scandal.
The good stuff is real. In February 2023, on the first anniversary of the invasion, she auctioned a one-off gown made with Ukrainian designer Lever Couture, with every dollar going to the Olena Zelenska Foundation. She even wrote a poem for it.
