Do we like Michelle Yeoh?

Our score: 8 out of 10. No harmful words or company turned up, and she has years of UN road-safety work and a record of backing women, with one badly received caption as the only real mark.

Michelle Yeoh has been working for more than 40 years, and she's never pretended the road was easy. At her Walk of Fame ceremony in February she said the path from Malaysia to Hollywood “wasn't a straight line”. From a Bond film (Tomorrow Never Dies) to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, she built a career the hard way.

The later chapters read like a comeback tour that never needed a comeback. Crazy Rich Asians, Shang-Chi, Everything Everywhere All at Once (which won her the Best Actress Oscar), then Wicked and Star Trek. In February 2026 Berlin gave her its Honorary Golden Bear, making her the first Asian woman to get it.

The stoushes are small. In March 2025 she posted “Thank you Tiffany for inviting us to Taipei China” after a store opening in Taipei, and Taiwanese commenters were not happy. Radio Free Asia didn't report a response from her, and whether you read it as a sloppy caption or a political choice is your call. Back in 2018, Malaysians also criticised her for co-producing a Billion Dollar Whale film, with some reminding her of her past support for Najib Razak.

On the harm test, we found nothing nasty. No remarks against LGBTQ+ people, migrants or climate action turned up, and no run of projects with people who push harm. Honest gap: she hasn't said much about trans issues either way. In 2017 she told the AP that any man who treats women with such disrespect and contempt should be prosecuted.

The good stuff is real. She's been a UN road-safety advocate for years, announced in 2022 by Malaysia's transport minister as a UN Development Programme goodwill ambassador for the cause. On receiving her Berlin award she spoke about representation for people who look like her, saying “We have to speak up.” That's using a platform for other people.

So would we support her? Yes, easily. She's a Hollywood veteran who kept her manners and her causes, and the worst on file is a caption that annoyed Taiwan. A blemish, not a pattern.
