Do we like Davika Hoorne?

Our score: 6 out of 10. No harmful words or company found and she spoke up for animals, but little of her record was readable, so it's a cautious six.

Davika Hoorne, known as Mai, is one of Thailand's biggest screen names, working as an actress, model and singer. In a 2016 Time Out Bangkok interview she said she wanted to be remembered as an actress who works hard, and that she did events and fashion work on the side. She also said rumours that she was unfriendly to crew were untrue.

The one real stoush on her record is the 2024 cat saga around the drama The Empress of Ayodhaya, which she led. Viewers were furious over a scene in which a live cat appeared to be poisoned. The director said the cat was sedated, and the broadcaster apologised.

She wasn't in the scene and isn't a broadcaster employee. The Star reported that she voiced disapproval of animal mistreatment and asked the production for clarification. That's a lead actress risking a bit of awkwardness with her own show, which counts for something.

Afterwards she filed what ChaPop reported as her first-ever defamation lawsuit over online comments, saying people were digging up the past. Note the limits: the coverage says she sued over what netizens said about her, not that she took on the producers. Abuse aimed at her doesn't count against her here, and neither does her suing over it.
