Do we like Maggie Cheung Ho-yee?
Our score: 6 out of 10. No harm and no scandal found, but also very little on the record to set against it, so it's a cautious middle-to-good score.
Quick housekeeping: this is Maggie Cheung Ho-yee, the TVB actress, not Maggie Cheung Man-yuk, the arthouse film star. The two get mixed up constantly, and a lot of the web's gossip about 'Maggie Cheung' belongs to the other one. Everything here is about Ho-yee only.
Malaysian outlets still introduce her as a former TVB star, and a veteran of dramas from the early 2000s. A Star piece in April 2026 marked the fact that she looks barely changed 22 years after the TVB drama War and Beauty, after she posted a bare-faced video to Douyin. That's the level of 'news' she generates: she keeps a low profile and doesn't do public stoushes.
The recent bit is her trip to Malaysia. She was an invited guest at the film festival in July, and Malay Mail reported she's keen on trying new characters and genres at 57. Hong Kong's Sing Tao Headline also reported her telling Malaysian media she doesn't want to be stuck playing other people's mums, and that acting is just one piece of her life.
On the harm check, we came up empty in a good way. We found no comments about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants, vaccines or the climate, no campaigning, and no habit of working with people who push that stuff. To be fair, that's partly because she says very little publicly, so call it a clean slate rather than a proven record.
On the good-person side, the searches found no lawsuits, no allegations from co-stars or staff, and no court outcomes. We also couldn't find any charity work or causes she's put her name to, so there's no big heroic stuff to point to. We tried to open the main articles in full, but the sites blocked us, so this verdict leans on search summaries.
