Do we like Luisa González?

Our score: 5 out of 10. Little harmful found and little real good verified, and a live court case with no outcome yet, so it sits in the middle.

Luisa González is the Ecuadorian lawyer who became the face of Rafael Correa's left-wing movement after he left office. She ran for president in 2023 and came back in 2025 for a rematch with Daniel Noboa, which is how most people outside Ecuador met her name.

Inside the party she rose to run it. She was named president of Revolución Ciudadana in November 2023, then said in September 2025 that she wouldn't seek another term at the top. Local reporting has also covered friction with Correa over who should run in the 2026 local elections.

The big story now is the Laberinto case. Prosecutors are investigating whether cash from Venezuela reached her 2023 campaign, and she was detained on 22 October and held in a women's prison in Riobamba. Her movement says it's political persecution, the prosecution says otherwise, and no court has ruled on the substance. Treat it as alleged until it is decided.

On the harm test, we found nothing like attacks on LGBTQ+ people, migrants or the climate in what we could read, though that part of the record is thin. The one flag is abortion: Vanguardia reports that her positions against full decriminalisation have drawn criticism from left-wing collectives. Where you land on that depends on how you weigh a reported stance against a full record we couldn't open.

On the good stuff, we couldn't verify charity work or personal acts of kindness, so we won't invent any. What is clear is that she was the first woman to reach an Ecuadorian presidential runoff, according to local coverage. That is a milestone, not a character reference.

So the honest answer is a shrug with a question mark. There's no hate on the record, no verified rap sheet and no proven wrongdoing either, only a high-stakes case that has barely started. Check back when a court has had its say.
