Do we like Liza Araneta-Marcos?

Our score: 6 out of 10. A clean harm record and some real community work, held back by a thin file and one openly held grudge.

Liza Araneta-Marcos is the First Lady of the Philippines, which is an unelected role, so there is no voting record to check. Most of what gets reported about her is ceremony, charity events and Palace statements, so honestly the file is thinner than for most people we check.

On the harm test, we found nothing from her. In July 2026 she led the National LGBTQIA+ Gathering in Intramuros, with more than 200 community and civil society representatives, and restated the government's pledge on equality and inclusion. We found no words of hers against LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the climate, though the coverage we could open paraphrases her speech rather than quoting it.

A lot of fake stuff has been aimed at her too, and that never counts against her. VERA Files found one viral video falsely claimed the Vice President had linked her to onion smuggling, using an edited photo, and found no such statement was made.

She did cop criticism in November 2025 for events at Malacañang while a typhoon hit large parts of the country. The Palace's press officer said they were formal engagements promoting Filipino artistry and not leisure. The article does not say who was complaining, so where you land depends on how you read the timing.

On the good stuff, her October 2026 meeting with a businessman's wife and a family law advocate was about getting government, foundations and the private sector working together on youth opportunities and community development. It is early days for that initiative. Add the LGBTQIA+ gathering and you get a record of showing up, even if it is mostly told through friendly outlets.

So we lean yes. The harm test is a clear pass on what we could find, and the good-person test gets an asterisk for the openly held grudge. What would move her up is more of her own words on the record, on the issues and not only the feuds.
