Do we like Liam Hemsworth?
Our score: 7 out of 10. He publicly backed same-sex marriage and no harmful words or company turned up, but the record is thin on causes and big stands.
Liam grew up in Melbourne alongside brothers Chris and Luke, and by his own account he was a handful. He told Now magazine he was “a naughty kid”, got turfed out of class a lot, and left school early to lay floors while he chased acting jobs. That's a pretty relatable start for a bloke who ended up in Hollywood.
The arc from there is the Aussie-soap-to-blockbuster route: a recurring role on Neighbours, a move to the US, then The Hunger Games films as Gale. More recently he stepped into Netflix's The Witcher as Geralt after Henry Cavill left, saying he was honoured to be handed the reins. It's a big, slightly thankless gig, and he took it on regardless.
On the harm test, the best thing we found is from 2017, when Australia was having its postal vote on marriage equality. He posted on Instagram that marriage is a human right and told people to vote yes, which cost him a few grumpy followers. We found nothing from him on trans people, climate, vaccines or migrants, either way, so that's the honest limit of the record.
On the good stuff, he joined his brother Chris on stage with Celeste Barber at the Make It Rain: Fund the Firies fundraiser in Byron Bay in January 2020. It's not a grand philanthropic résumé and we won't pretend it is. He's now engaged to model Gabriella Brooks, who announced it on Instagram in September 2025, and he's been low-drama since.
Nothing recent and newsworthy turned up on him lately, just the usual gossip noise and work news. So: a decent bloke on the evidence, with a good call on marriage equality and nothing worrying on file. We'd happily keep watching his stuff, and he'd score higher if he used his platform more.
