Do we like Liam Gallagher?
Our score: 5 out of 10. A record of ugly posts, each followed by an apology, plus real charity work and no campaigning against anyone.
Liam Gallagher is the mouth and the voice of Oasis, the Manchester band that spent 2025 on a huge reunion tour. He was still dropping hints on X that the tour might run into 2026, which tells you most of what you need to know about how he does business: loudly, and in public.
The bit that matters most here is the slurs. In July 2025, days before the Oasis reunion tour started, he posted an anti-Asian slur on X. When fans objected he first replied with a flippant 'Why' and 'Whatever', then deleted it and apologised, saying he did not intend offence and does not discriminate. The backlash was loudest among fans in Korea and Japan.
It isn't the first time. In 2016, days after the Pulse nightclub shooting, he tweeted an anti-gay insult at Russian football hooligans, and he apologised. In 2018 he aimed the insult 'bum chums' at his brother and other musicians, then told the Guardian he didn't mean it homophobically and 'shouldn't say them things'. That's a pattern of careless, hurtful words, though nothing like a campaign.
The other side of the ledger: he told the Guardian in 2017 that you are what you are, and in 2023 he gave a short, friendly reply to a trans fan's Pride message. Attitude magazine's retrospective ends up calling him more daft than hateful, though that is the writer's opinion. We found no anti-trans campaigning, no conspiracy rabbit holes, and nothing on vaccines or the climate.
In 2018 the Sun alleged he lunged at his then-girlfriend and published leaked CCTV. He denied it, saying he had never put his hands on a woman in a vicious manner. She called the reports fake news, and the piece we read reported no outcome. Treat it as an unproven tabloid allegation that he denies.
On the good side, after the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing he pledged all profits from a Manchester show to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund. His other charity work includes homelessness causes, stray dogs and a donated stage globe, per the search results we read. He's also a notorious wind-up merchant, as the Kane and Mexico banter this July shows.
