Do we like Kim Taehyung?
Our score: 7 out of 10. Clean on harm and kind in the record we could read, but he's quiet on causes, so we stop short of the top end.
V is Kim Taehyung, one of the seven members of BTS. He enlisted for South Korea's mandatory service in December 2023 alongside other members and was discharged on 10 June 2025, with fans lining the road to greet him. That's the arc: a global pop act that paused for national service and came back.
The nearest thing to a scandal is a messy one he didn't start. In February 2026, private KakaoTalk messages between V and a former ADOR boss were reportedly accepted as evidence in her fight with HYBE. V said they were submitted without his consent and that he hadn't taken a side; HYBE said the chat showed sympathy, not agreement with her claims.
He's also been the one taking action. V and Jungkook won a civil case against a YouTuber who targeted them, with the appeal court in January 2026 reportedly lifting each member's damages by 5 million won. Being on the receiving end of that kind of campaign says nothing bad about him.
On the harm test, we found no words or acts of his own that hurt LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the planet, and no trail of dodgy company. To be fair, he isn't a loud campaigner either. We found no statement of his own on LGBTQ+ rights or climate, so this is a pass on the absence of harm, not a gold star for advocacy.
The good stuff is concrete. In March 2025, he donated 200 million won for wildfire victims and firefighters, and it was the Korean Red Cross, not his agency, that announced it. His fans also run a lot of charity drives in his name, but that's their effort and not something we can credit to him.
Nothing recent turned up in what we could read beyond the tour, and we couldn't open every page we wanted. Treat this as a thin-but-clean file: no red flags, a solid act of giving, and a bloke who mostly keeps his head down.
