Do we like Kim Min-seok?
Our score: 6 out of 10. Thin record: no harmful words found and one apologised-for slip, but little on the public record about what he does for others.
Kim Min-seok is the vocalist of MeloMance, the South Korean duo, and has built a second career as a solo singer, drama soundtrack voice and musical actor. His biggest solo hit, according to the coverage we read, sits alongside a 2023 Golden Disc Awards prize. In 2025 he won Best New Actor at the 9th Korea Musical Awards for Hadestown.
The one stoush on his record is from February 2025. Reports said he had taken part in an Instagram poll run by an account that posted sexually edited clips of female K-pop performers, and he faced criticism for it. At a media roundtable for the musical Werther he said he had clicked the post by accident, and the story was that he undid it straight away.
He did not dodge it. He bowed his head, apologised and said he had nothing more to say, which is about the right move. Nothing in what we read suggests it was a pattern, and we found no other allegations, lawsuits or court cases against him. A poll click isn't a campaign, but it's a mark worth noting.
On the harm test, we searched for anything he has said or done about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants, vaccines or the climate and found nothing from him either way. His recent work is songs, soundtracks and musical theatre, with no sign he is attached to anyone pushing harm. That's an absence of evidence, so we say so rather than hand out gold stars.
The recent news is a comeback: in May 2026 he opened an official account and announced a digital single, Summer House Part 1, for release on 5 June. That's a career update, not a scandal. Nothing new on him lately that changes the picture.
Honest summary: a successful, apparently low-drama artist with one online slip he apologised for. We didn't find verified charity or advocacy that would push him higher. Fine to enjoy his music without squirming, and worth watching for more.
