Do we like Kim Go-eun?
Our score: 8 out of 10. A clean record on harm and a documented disaster donation, but little public record on causes beyond that.
Kim Go-eun debuted in 2012 with the film Eungyo and has worked steadily since. Her TV breakthrough came in 2016 with Cheese in the Trap and Goblin. She also appeared in the film Canola alongside Youn Yuh-jung. From 2021 she played Yumi across all three seasons of Yumi's Cells.
The second peak came with Exhuma, in which she played the shaman Hwa-rim. It earned her best actress at the 2024 Baeksang Arts Awards and a Blue Dragon best actress win. Since then she has led two Netflix series, The Price of Confession and You and Everything Else.
The only real brush with scandal is old. In 2019 an SBS program raised a drug-related party at the Burning Sun nightclub. The Korea Times listed her among the actresses who denied being part of it. The report did not allege she was the person at the centre of it, and it records no legal action or finding against her.
On the harm test the searches came up empty. No comments on trans people, women, migrants, vaccines or the climate surfaced, and neither did any slide into grievance. Her recent projects are mainstream Korean dramas and films. That's a clean sheet, though a quiet one: she isn't a campaigner on social issues.
The good stuff is on record. In March 2025 she donated 50 million won to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association for wildfire recovery. She said her heart was heavy thinking of people who lost their homes. That is real money for real people, not a photo-op.
The Busan appearance shows a candid performer. She said Season 3 was something nobody expected and that she even opposed making it. Earlier she called playing one character for so long a rare and meaningful experience. She comes across as grounded about the work.
