Do we like Kevin Smith?
Our score: 7 out of 10. A decent, quiet career with no harm or misconduct found, but too little personal record to push the score higher.
Kevin Smith is a small-town Texas football story. He came out of West Orange-Stark High School in Orange, Texas, where local coverage says he helped the Mustangs to two state titles, then went to Texas A&M and became one of the best cornerbacks the Aggies ever had.
The Cowboys picked him in the first round of the 1992 draft, and he stayed in Dallas for his whole NFL career. He started as a rookie on the side that won Super Bowl XXVII and ended up with three championship rings, so he was a proper part of the 1990s dynasty and not a bit-part player.
Now the scandals bit: there isn't one. We searched court records, lawsuits and allegations, and the legal headlines that come up under this name belong to other Kevin Smiths. Nothing turned up for this one, which is rarer in a former NFL star than you'd think.
On the harm test we looked for anything on LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants, vaccines or the climate, and for the company he keeps. We found no statements, posts or causes on any of it. Honest caveat: silence isn't the same as a glowing reference, and he isn't a big public talker on politics.
Nothing new on him lately, either. The big recent moment was December 2024, when he went into the College Football Hall of Fame as a three-time Super Bowl champion and Aggie legend. His home town of Orange has also kept honouring him with local celebrations.
So the answer is a comfortable yes. He's a good bloke on paper with a clean file, and the only reason it isn't a higher score is that there's little on record about what he does off the field. If he has a charity or a cause, we couldn't find it.
