Do we like Keifer Cabugao?
Our score: 6 out of 10. Nothing harmful or dodgy found, and the band's record is good, but very little has been written about him on his own.
Keifer Cabugao is one of the nine members of Ben&Ben, the Manila folk-pop band that has become one of the biggest acts in Filipino music. He is usually credited as the band's violinist, though the pages we could open mostly name him in group coverage rather than profile him. There's no big origin story on the public record for him alone, so this column leans on what the band does.
Scandals first: none name him. The band has copped some online stoushes, including a 2024 row over lineup order at a university gig where netizens blamed the group, and the band denied it, saying delays and organiser issues were behind it. Those reports are about the band as a whole, and we didn't open them, so we're not leaning on them here.
On the harm check, we found nothing: no posts, speeches or donations of his that target LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the planet. No dodgy co-stars or studios turned up either. One related item: in 2020 fans started a Pride campaign built around the band's songs, and percussionist Toni Muñoz called it a very important move. That was a fan-led effort, and Keifer isn't quoted in it, so we won't put words in his mouth.
In his own words, Keifer has been refreshingly honest about band life. At a 2025 press event he said the members aren't perfect and do fight, but that their love for each other runs deeper than anything. That's a decent look from a bloke whose group just closed out a nine-piece era with a sold-out Araneta night.
So the verdict: a clean pass on both tests, with the honest caveat that the record on him personally is thin. If something turns up, we'll revisit. For now, the violin stays in the good books.
