Do we like Kai Cenat?

Our score: 5 out of 10. Real good work on the Nigeria school, a so-so record on policing guests on his stream, and a serious accusation he denies that is still unresolved.

Kai Cenat grew up in the Bronx, started on YouTube and became the face of a generation of streamers. He broke Twitch subscriber records with his month-long subathons, and that scale is why his every move turns into a news cycle.

The big stoush before this one was Union Square in 2023, when a giveaway he promoted drew a huge crowd and he was charged with inciting a riot. Prosecutors dropped the charges in 2024 after he paid restitution and posted a public apology. No conviction, but it shows how fast his scale can outrun his judgement.

On harm, nothing campaign-style turned up: no anti-trans crusade, no conspiracy theories, no climate denial in what we found. The marks are smaller. A guest used a homophobic slur repeatedly on his 2025 subathon, and Spilled.gg reported Kai told him not to say it while streaming and later called it freedom of speech. A 2024 livestream clip also drew homophobia accusations, though the article also noted other readings of it.

The fresh and serious one: Reggie Travers, a former friend and streaming partner, accused Kai in an Instagram livestream of grooming a younger creator. Kai rejected it on a 30 September stream, said he'd sue and urged Reggie to go to the police. His lawyers' cease-and-desist calls the claims categorically false. Nothing is proven, and the creator named has rejected Reggie's claim about his childhood.

It's been a big year otherwise. In January he posted an 'I Quit' vlog that set off retirement rumours; he was actually launching a clothing brand and talking about overthinking his goals. After a long break he returned in July with Streamer University, a programme that pairs aspiring streamers with experienced ones for free.

The good stuff is real. During Mafiathon 2 he pledged 20 per cent of the stream's revenue to build a school in Makoko, Nigeria, saying he'd fund the project out of pocket, and he has kept the cause going through later subathons. Lots of streamers talk charity; he put numbers on it publicly.
