Do we like Josh Giddey?

Our score: 7 out of 10. Nothing harmful found and some real community work, but the record is thin and one old cloud never got a public answer from him.

Giddey is a Melbourne-raised point guard who went from the NBL to the NBA and is now a Chicago Bull. He is a playmaker, and in late October he set up a comeback win in Milwaukee with a game-high nine assists. Apart from the basketball, he is a pretty low-key public figure.

The big cloud on his name started in November 2023, when videos circulated on social media and Newport Beach police opened an investigation into an alleged inappropriate relationship with an underage girl. In January 2024 police said that after an exhaustive examination they could not corroborate any criminal activity, and he faced no charges. The NBA then reportedly closed its own review in May 2024, per ESPN. Giddey has never publicly addressed the allegations.

That's the whole scandal list. No lawsuit against him turned up, and the only fine in the searches went to his team over injury paperwork, not to him. It's an unresolved cloud, not a finding, and we're not treating it as one.

On the harm test, the search found nothing. We found no remarks from him about trans or gay people, women, migrants, vaccines or the climate, and no pattern of working with people who push that stuff. That is a thin record rather than a glowing one, and we'd be lying if we said we had read his mind on any of it.

The one stoush on the record came in November 2025, when he walked over to a courtside fan in Charlotte after something was said to him. A referee stepped in and security removed the fan. Giddey said afterwards the fan said something he didn't like and that was it. He has also said online criticism gets to him, which is human enough.

On the good side, his family foundation and the Bulls renovated a game room at the Ronald McDonald House at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago in September 2026, and he picked up the tab for a pizza and ice cream dinner. He added Australian animal artwork himself and said he wanted the space to feel inclusive for everybody. Not a world-saving résumé, but a decent one.
