Do we like Josh Hines-Allen?
Our score: 6 out of 10. Nothing harmful and some real good turned up, but there's little on the record about his views, so we hold back from a higher score.
This is the Jaguars pass rusher you may know as Josh Allen. Not the Bills quarterback, who shares the name and gets most of the headlines. The Jaguars defender was a Kentucky star, and Jacksonville picked him seventh overall in the 2019 draft.
In 2024 he legally changed his surname to Hines-Allen. Reports said it was partly to end the mix-up with the quarterback and partly a nod to his family's history on his mother's side. It's a small thing, but it shows a bloke who cares where he comes from.
On the harm test we went looking for anything on trans and LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants, vaccines or the climate. Nothing turned up, in either direction. There's no sign of grievance politics, no dodgy co-stars or studios, and no culture-war posting in what we could find. We'll be honest, though: absence of evidence is not a ringing endorsement.
On the good-person side we searched for lawsuits, charges and accusations and found none involving him. The searches mostly returned other people with similar names, so treat that as a clean sheet rather than a proven saint.
Nothing new on him lately that we could confirm, and we couldn't open every page we wanted to, so we've kept this to what the sources clearly show. Would we cheer for him? Yes, easily. Would we call him a champion of the community? We just don't have the evidence either way.
