Do we like Jordan Peele?
Our score: 8 out of 10. Consistent record of using his work and money for others, with only a stalled career and some staff cuts to mark against him.
Peele was born in New York in 1979 and grew up in a single-parent household on the Upper West Side. He has said being biracial often made him feel like an outsider, which goes a long way to explaining the work. He went to Sarah Lawrence to study puppetry, dropped out for comedy, and cut his teeth in improv and on MADtv.
Get Out was a long shot in his own eyes. At a 2017 forum he said he couldn't worry about whether it got made, only about writing his favourite movie that didn't exist. That is the instinct behind most of what he's made since: a horror film that is really about race.
The recent news is more about stalling than scandal. His fourth directed film, his first since Nope in 2022, was dropped from Universal's calendar in September 2025, and a source told Variety he was still working on it. In May 2026 Monkeypaw laid off three development staffers, with the company saying Peele wanted to be more hands-on in developing projects. Their Him, produced by Monkeypaw, also bombed.
We couldn't find a credible allegation about how he treats people. A few lawsuits touching his companies turned up in search, but we couldn't confirm outcomes, so we've left them out. That's honestly the whole list, and the staff cuts are the only mark we can source. He's also been open about the nerves of the job, saying in 2024 his next film could be his favourite if he makes it right.
