Do we like Jon Ossoff?
Our score: 7 out of 10. Nothing harmful turned up and his bills lean practical and decent, but we couldn't open enough pages to go higher.
Jon Ossoff has just done what plenty of people said was hard: held a Georgia Senate seat in a state Donald Trump carried in 2024. He beat Republican Rep. Mike Collins, and news outlets called it on election night. Ossoff told the crowd that voters had rebuked Trump.
The campaign was a big-money one. He opened 2026 with a war chest over $25 million, and AP reporting in July had him raising $20 million in a single quarter. His pitch was that the election was a check on Trump, and he leaned on the Iran war as part of that argument.
On the harm check, the record we could read is clean. Political Wire reported in 2025 that his vote to block a bill on transgender athletes could hurt him politically, and Republican rivals like Buddy Carter went after him for it. That is a vote the page's readers will likely welcome, and it cost him nothing in the end.
There is some real community-minded work in the list too. He sponsored a resolution marking the first anniversary of the Fort Stewart shooting, which the Senate agreed to without amendment. He has also pushed bills for servicemembers and a national historic site honouring Ralph David Abernathy, a civil rights leader.
Now the honest bit: we hit tool limits and couldn't open most articles in full, so the court record and allegation searches weren't done properly. We found nothing against him, but that is a gap rather than a clean bill. If something turns up, it will change this.
So where does that leave us? A Democrat who voted the right way on trans athletes, sponsors sensible bills and has just won comfortably. We'd back him, with the caveat that we haven't tested him as hard as we'd like.
