Do we like Jin Akanishi?

Our score: 6 out of 10. No harmful words or deeds turned up, but there's little verified good to lift him higher.

Jin Akanishi came up through Johnny & Associates and became one of the two lead vocalists of KAT-TUN. He left the group in 2010 for a solo career, and signed with Warner Music Japan. He later dabbled in English-language pop and had a Hollywood turn.

His biggest public blow-up was career-side, not a scandal of cruelty. He married actress Meisa Kuroki in February 2012, and Anime News Network reported that his agency cancelled his spring tour and held him responsible for the costs, partly because he reported the marriage after it was registered. Reports also said he was pushed out of a TV remake, and he spent about 17 months away from the business.

When he came back in 2013, he said, “I caused a lot of worry for people, but I will release a new song.” That's a pretty ordinary, humble way to wrap up a messy chapter.

On the harm test, we found no statements from him about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the planet, and no record of him backing anyone who pushes that stuff. When the old Johnny's agency was in turmoil in 2023, FRIDAY reported he posted about maybe setting up an office of his own. That's about the industry, not about hurting anyone.

The recent news is mostly tabloid-flavoured. FRIDAY ran a 2025 piece speculating about a night out after his October 2024 concerts and noted it had no confirmation and no reply from his agency. In May 2025 he denied a magazine's report and told fans not to buy it. That's gossip territory, nothing that changes the verdict.
