Do we like Jhoanna Robles?
Our score: 8 out of 10. Nothing harmful found, a group record of backing queer fans and disaster relief, and apologies when she or the group got it wrong.
Jhoanna Robles is the leader of BINI, the eight-member Star Magic girl group that has become one of the biggest names in P-pop. She is the one who fronts the press and speaks for the group, and she also graduated senior high school in 2025 in the middle of a world tour build-up.
The messiest chapter was May 2025, when a viral video involving some BINI members drew criticism and a fan page urged the group to respond. BINI put out a statement saying it was a private moment with friends, that they did not mean to hurt anyone, and that they took full accountability. No fuss, no spin, just an apology, which counts for something.
In August 2025 Jhoanna copped flak for a post about the film Sunshine, with critics saying she missed its point about women's choices over their bodies. She apologised, said her wording hadn't captured what the film conveyed, and still said it was worth watching. Owning it quickly is the right move, and it reads as a clumsy post, not a pattern.
On the harm test, there is nothing here: no nasty words about LGBTQ+ or trans people, women, migrants or the planet, and no dodgy company. We found no Jhoanna-specific statement on queer issues, to be fair. The group as a whole performed with drag queens, headlined Quezon City Pride in 2024, and thanked the LGBTQ+ community, though the quote there came from bandmate Maloi.
The group also went after a edited street food video that spun them as snobs, with all eight members filing a complaint in August 2025 against an unnamed uploader. That makes them the complainants, not the accused, and no ruling had been reported by the time the page was updated.
On the good stuff, BINI redirected a planned Christmas donation drive to Typhoon Kristine victims in 2024, and Jhoanna said people needed the help now. In April 2026 the group won Billboard's Global Force Award after Coachella, with Jhoanna accepting it as proud Filipinas and hoping to inspire young girls.
