Do we like Jeremy Corbyn?
Our score: 5 out of 10. Good on trans rights, peace and the planet, with a contested record on Israel and Gaza that this run couldn't fully check.
Corbyn is a veteran of the British left. He is MP for Islington North, and in July 2025 he and independent MP Zarah Sultana announced a new left-wing party, provisionally called Your Party. It was pitched as a home for people who felt abandoned by Keir Starmer's Labour.
The launch turned messy fast. Within weeks the party was feuding over who ran it, and Corbyn conceded publicly that “we haven’t covered ourselves in glory”. A founding conference followed in Liverpool in late November 2025, with the fight for control of the left still going.
On trans people, the record is mostly good. The party's first big policy row came when one of its MPs, Adnan Hussain, said trans women are not biologically women, and critics said Corbyn and Sultana were slow to respond. Corbyn has spoken up for trans people before. In April 2025 he posted that they deserve to live in dignity, and in 2018 he said self-identified trans women should be treated as women.
The good stuff is a lifetime in activism. In December 2020 he launched the Peace and Justice Project, which says it works on peace, social and economic justice and climate justice. Whether you see him as a principled campaigner or a divisive figure, you can't say he has changed his tune.
