Do we like Hyun Bin?

Our score: 7 out of 10. A clean record and steady charity, marked down because he rarely says anything on public issues, so there's little to go on.

Hyun Bin is one of South Korea's biggest screen stars, and the big international break came with Crash Landing on You. He told GMA Network in 2025 that it “opened the door to many more opportunities”, though he hedged on whether it changed his life completely. That's a fairly grounded answer for someone with a wax figure in Singapore.

This year has been a big one. He picked up a run of acting honours for the spy thriller Made in Korea, and in April South Korea's National Intelligence Service named him an honorary counterintelligence agent. It's a publicity role to raise awareness, not a spy job. Season 2 followed in September, with Jung Woo-sung back opposite him.

On scandals, there's very little. The only real flare-up was a 2023 YouTube video that alleged he'd gambled overseas. His agency called it groundless fake news and said it planned legal action. No court case or credible report has backed it up, and it was never more than a rumour.

Now the harm check. I searched for anything he's said or done about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants, vaccines or the climate, and found nothing. No campaigning, no conspiracy posts, no grievance spiral. His recent work is mainstream Korean film and streaming, and nothing in it tied him to anyone pushing harm. Silence isn't a gold star, but it isn't a red flag either, and that's honestly the whole list.

He was also pulled into a messy moment. In January 2026, Made in Korea co-star Jung Woo-sung was the target of criticism over his acting, and Hyun Bin was asked about it by reporters. He won Best Actor at the Blue Dragon Awards in November 2025 for playing independence activist Ahn Jung-geun in Harbin. Some online critics argued the result was a popularity pick, which says more about award-night arguments than about him.

The good stuff is real and steady. At the end of 2025, he and Son Ye-jin gave 200 million won to Samsung Medical Center for children and low-income patients. In January 2025, they gave 150 million won each to Asan and Samsung medical centres, for disadvantaged patients and for paediatric and maternity care. He does it through his agency, with little fuss.
