Do we like Henry Cavill?
Our score: 7 out of 10. A clean record apart from one 2018 interview he apologised for, plus years of fundraising for the Royal Marines, though the research behind it was patchy.
Cavill is now fronting the Highlander reboot, playing Connor MacLeod for John Wick director Chad Stahelski. The cast includes Dave Bautista, Russell Crowe and Karen Gillan. Filming was held up by an injury during training, and the film isn't expected until 2027 or 2028. When he posted the first-look photos he said it had been “quite the journey for me”.
The one real stoush on his record is from July 2018. He told GQ Australia that #MeToo had left him wary of approaching women, because he feared being accused of something, and that phoning an ex felt safer. The online backlash was swift. His representative put out an apology for any confusion, saying insensitivity was not his intention and that he holds women in high regard.
On the harm check, that is where the trail stops. We found no reporting of him saying anything against LGBTQ+ people, migrants, public health or the planet, and no campaigning of that kind. Highlander's cast list doesn't include anyone we'd flag. The record here is thin, so that is a result of what we found, not a guarantee. The 2018 comments are why this is an asterisk and not a clean pass.
The recent noise is harmless. At Royal Ascot on 17 June 2026 he turned up in top hat and tails and a vintage Longines watch. An Instagram watch-spotting clip went viral because commenters ignored the watch. It reads as people being cheeky about a famous man, not as scandal.
The good stuff is real and long-running. He has been an ambassador for the Royal Marines charity and took part in the Commando Challenge in 2016 to raise money for it. He also lent his name to a prize draw offering a trip to London and a flight with him. It is steady, unglamorous fundraising, not a one-off photo op.
Put together, he is a yes. He said something clumsy about dating after #MeToo, he apologised, and the years since show nothing nasty and some good done quietly. The caveat is that the record is thin, and we couldn't confirm some of the usual background, such as his upbringing and the Witcher exit story. Tabloid territory has plenty to say about that, none of it solid.
