Do we like Hamish Blake?
Our score: 8 out of 10. Nothing harmful or nasty turned up, he publicly backed marriage equality and has an OAM, but the record we could read is a bit thin on detail.
Hamish Blake is the half of Hamish and Andy who somehow ended up with a Gold Logie. He won his first in 2012 for Gap Year, beating more favoured rivals, and spent the speech giving the credit away. He told the crowd that Andy Lee, a friend since they were teenagers, owned half of it.
The recent work is also clean. Unskilled Adult is an eight-part Stan comedy where he plays a faux CEO leading inexperienced workers through practical jobs, and the cast is a who's who of Aussie and Kiwi comedy: Becky Lucas, Anne Edmonds, Bret McKenzie and Andy Lee. No grievance merchants or culture-war studios in that lineup.
On scandals, there's honestly not much to tell. Our searches turned up no court cases or serious allegations against him, and that's the whole list. In 2024 he was awarded an OAM for service to the arts as an entertainer, and to the community. His own response was a joke about not getting the King a birthday present.
So the call is a yes. He passes on harm and passes on nice. The caveat is that the coverage we could open was light on what he has said about the big issues, so this is a gentle yes, not a gushing one.
