Do we like Guy Sebastian?

Our score: 7 out of 10. A decent record on both tests, held back by one clumsy vaccine backflip and a thin public record on LGBTQ+ issues.

The big drama is the long fight with his former manager Titus Day. After Sebastian's suspicions led to evidence going to police, Day was convicted in 2022 of embezzling about $625,000 and sentenced, then freed when the convictions were quashed on appeal. A retrial in July 2025 found him not guilty on four counts and the jury could not decide the rest, and prosecutors later dropped the remaining charges.

The civil fight ended in August 2026. Sebastian had alleged in the Federal Court that Day held back payments owed to him. Day said he was a “poor steward” of Guy's income and took full responsibility, and Sebastian chose to drop the claim and forgive him. Gracious, and a rare tidy ending to a messy business.

On LGBTQ+ matters the public record is thin, and I couldn't find a clear statement from him on marriage equality, so be upfront about that gap. What there is points the right way: in 2016 he described his old church as controlling and said it was fine to ask questions. In 2020 he also copped a pile-on for standing behind Prime Minister Scott Morrison at an arts funding announcement. He said he went to fight for his industry, wasn't paid, and had “no regrets”.

So: he's a good egg who stumbled once when the vaccine pile-on hit, and he handled a nasty money dispute with more grace than most would. He's out touring regional Australia now. Not a name to lose sleep over; one you can enjoy.
